German time trial champion

180629_dmezf

I had my best time trial of the last few months to become German champion again. I am happy not just with the title, but above all with my performance. I felt strong from the first to the last meter – even though I have to admit that at the end I took something our and enjoyed the ride into the finish. I had a super feeling the whole time, the position was stabile and I think the values were according to plan. I always oriented myself on about 440 watts, which I wanted to pedal. That worked out perfectly.

This year I have prepared for the championship more as in the past years when I left training earlier. But my rivals have gotten too strong, that you have to be top fit in this race.

The course was pretty simple, but mental pretty tough because of endless straight sections. In the end I didn’t lose my focus and could just march on.

For the road race tomorrow, Marcel is clearly our captain. We will of course do everything so that it comes to a sprint finish. But anything can happen. Teams like Bora or Sunweb are numerically stronger there and so have more options. We are only five and will try to be wide awake in every situation. It would of course be great if Marcel could stand on the top step of the podium. He has already tried for it several times.
